About Stratford upon Avon

Situated on the River Avon, Stratford-upon-Avon is famous as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. It is home to the Royal Shakespeare Company and features five historic houses linked to the Bard which are owned and cared for by The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. One of these, Anne Hathaway's cottage, is where Shakespeare's wife spent her childhood. Holy Trinity Church is where Shakespeare was baptised and is buried. Stratford lies only 22 miles to the south east of the UK's second largest city, Birmingham, and is easily accessible from the M40 motorway.
